1. weekend 指“周末”，在5天工作制的國(guó)家，指星期六和星期日；在 6 天工作制的國(guó)家，指星期日，與 weekday（周日）相對(duì)，為可數(shù)名詞。如：

We must go and have a weekend there. 我們應(yīng)當(dāng)?shù)侥抢锒戎苣?/span>

We spend alternate weekends at our country cottage. 我們每隔一周到我們的鄉(xiāng)間住宅過(guò)一次周末。

2. 表示“在周末”，英語(yǔ)可用 at [on] the weekend 或 at [on] weekends（用介詞 at 為英國(guó)英語(yǔ)，用 on 為美國(guó)英語(yǔ)），但習(xí)慣上不說(shuō) in the weekend 或 in weekends。如：

We usually do our shopping at the weekend. 我們通常利用周末采購(gòu)物品。

They like to go ballooning on the weekend. 他們周末喜歡乘氣球玩。

Traffic on the roads is heaviest at weekends. 周末的交通最為繁忙。

The library is closed on weekends. 周末圖書(shū)館關(guān)門(mén)。

在美國(guó)英語(yǔ)中可省略其前的介詞，即把 weekends 用作副詞。如：

He works weekends. 他周末工作。

I go yachting most weekends in the summer. 在夏天，我大多數(shù)周末都乘快艇游玩。

若不是表示“在周末”，則可根據(jù)情況與其他介詞搭配。如：

The weather ought to improve after the weekend. 過(guò)了周末天氣應(yīng)當(dāng)好起來(lái)。

Tom is always going away for weekends. 湯姆每個(gè)周末總是外出。

Why don’t you and I go away for the weekend? 咱們倆何不到外地去度周末呢?

The weather is stormy and will remain so over the weekend. 今天是暴風(fēng)雨天氣，整個(gè)周末都會(huì)是這樣。

Could you oblige me with five pounds until the weekend? 能借我5英鎊嗎，周末還你?

3. 當(dāng) weekend 與 this, that, last, next, every 等搭配時(shí)，其前不用介詞 at 或 on。如：

We are expecting guests this weekend. 我們本周末要來(lái)客人。

Accidents due to driving at high speed were very common that weekend. 在那個(gè)周末因高速駕駛造成的交通事故很多。

Tomorrow’s difficult. I’d rather yon came next weekend. 明天有困難，我希望你下周末來(lái)。

Peggy was pretty rude to my family last weekend. 佩吉上個(gè)周末對(duì)我家人很不禮貌。

We go boating on the lake every weekend. 我們每個(gè)周末都到湖上劃船。
